Flat Earth Conference, Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Reflections on Safety, Travel, and Broader Implications

In February, a flat earth conference was held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, from the 15th to the 20th, by our friend David Weiss, during a period of significant unrest in the region. Reports at the time indicated that violent incidents occurred following the government’s actions against a criminal cartel leader. As a result, many tourists were advised to remain in their hotels, and concerns were raised about safe travel and departure from the area. And, of course, we pray that all geocentric believers have arrived home safely.

Now that the situation is reportedly under control, our thoughts and prayers remain with the residents of Puerto Vallarta and with all visitors who were affected. We are thankful for those who were able to return home safely, and we continue to hope for stability and peace for the local community.

We hope that the next flat earth conference is held in some other country. They can try America for starters.

Unfortunately, cartel-related violence has been an ongoing issue in various parts of Mexico for many years. While some regions remain relatively safe, others experience persistent instability. This reality understandably influences travel decisions for foreigners and may have lasting effects on tourism in certain areas. When planning future events or conferences, safety considerations should remain a top priority, including evaluating alternative locations where risks are lower.

The broader issue of drug-related crime raises difficult questions about enforcement, policy, and responsibility. Violence fueled by narcotics trafficking affects not only Mexico but also the countries where demand for illegal drugs remains high. Addressing this problem requires more than military force or border enforcement alone; it calls for serious reflection on demand, accountability, and the social conditions that allow criminal networks to thrive.

From a moral and spiritual perspective, many believe that lasting solutions must include a return to justice, personal responsibility, and national repentance. Scripture reminds us that humility and turning back to righteous principles are foundational to healing any nation. As written in II Chronicles 7:14, healing follows when people turn from destructive paths and seek what is right.

Until such changes take root—both individually and collectively—nations across the world will continue to face complex challenges related to crime, corruption, and unrest.
