The Bible and the Flat Earth: The Stars
Continuing our study from where we left off of the firmament, we go to find what the stars really are. Now, there are many verses in the Bible where the stars are used as an analogy meaning “many.” We will not cover these verses, but the verses where it means literal stars. Keep in mind though, when stars are used to convey many, the stars in it’s literal sense means many, too.
My comments (C:) will follow some of the verses.
Gen_1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
C: It goes without saying that the stars to rule the night along with the Moon – as this is what we see at night. The important thing to note there is a connection with all the heavenly bodies to this little old planet earth. If the stars are what astronomers say they are, and their location is where they say they are (billions of light years away), they could hardly serve earth.
If the Sun is the centre of the solar system and the planets revolve around it, our Sun would not be serving us only but other planets. We’ll look more into this later.
Gen_15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
C: I left this verse in here to show you how God promised that his children will be very numerous.
Gen_37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
Judges_5:20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
C: It looks like the stars are not great balls of fire a million miles or more in diameter as we were taught. And it looks like they follow a “course.” This word “course” is interesting. What do you think of a course? I think of a course of any pre-determined course that comes back on itself; it could be a race course that man runs; it could be horse race or auto race course where it returns to the beginning. Admittedly, a course doesn’t have to return to the beginning, but one that does is very common.
Job_3:9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
C: Here we read that the stars are directly related to the earth. For example, “…let it (stars) see the dawning of the day.” This “day” would be our earth day. If stars were all over space, which in turn are billions of light years in distance, how can they have any influence on us here? In fact, how can the nearest stars have any influence on us? They can’t, thus stars must be very close. Now, before you say, “How can they as we were told, as we would burn up; plus there would not be enough room for them in such a close proximity.” Just put that statement on the back burner for now, as stars are not what we are told they are.
Job_9:7 Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
C: Why would Yahweh God “seal up the stars” that are thousands or billions of light years away? It would make no sense.
Job_22:12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
C: Apparently stars have a height to them but if you think of the cosmos as Carl Sagan and others would have us believe, the statement would be preposterous. First, how can you measure object of any height without a baseline? And, where would that baseline be in outer space? If outer space is what we are told it is, then, there would be no baseline, no up, no down. Thus, the stars must be close to earth and the flat earth is the baseline to which something can be measured.
Job_38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
C: Here is an indication that stars are not nuclear reaction mass of gas giving off great heat. According to this verse, they are intelligent (perhaps more so than we are!). Stars can shout for joy, thus they have emotions, too.
Psa_136:9 The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.
C: The Moon and stars rule by night. Even globe earth believers can understand that the Moon rules by night, as the light from the moon would have no effect on any other planet in our solar system (if there was one). But the stars, how could they rule by night on earth (give the lesser light)? If the cosmos was what we are told in schools and the media, that they are billions of light years away, this verse would make no sense. But, if the stars are but a short distance away and they are just points of light, it would make sense. For the stars to “rule by night” would indicate that they are close. More about this later.
Psa_147:4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
Astronomers and those in the related science tells us that there’s an estimated billion galaxies and each one with a 100 billions suns (or whatever the current vogue figure is); wouldn’t it be ridiculous in number for God to give them all names? If the true number of stars are in the millions even, this would be understandable; a huge number for us, but for God, it wouldn’t.
Psa_148:3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Ecc_12:2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
Isa_13:10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
Isa_14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
C: Here is the word “above” but in order to have an above, there has to be a ground, a baseline to go up. Out is space there is no up, no down, no north, no south, no height and no depth. So, these stars must be in close proximity to the earth, and it is the level earth that is the baseline. You can not have a level on a globe. In fact, if the earth was a globe and you believe like the flat earth believers that the stars go around it, how would you establish a baseline? How would you know what is up, for what is up for you (if you live in the Northern Hemisphere) would be in the opposite direction in Australia?
In this verse we also read about satan (presumably) saying “above the stars of God.” This indicates that there is a limit, and end to where the stars are. If you believe what NASA and others tell you, there is no end. Even if there were, with 13 billion light years away, the distance is too vast to make any sense of the verse. However, if the stars are in a firmament and even if the firmament is 1,000 miles thick, saying “above the stars” makes sense. And the distance is small enough to relate it to the earth.
Jer_31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
Eze_32:7 And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
Dan_8:10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.
C: This is the first indication of the size of the stars and their nature. We read in Daniel that some of the host of heaven is cast down to the earth and stamped upon. If stars were what we were told they are, of their huge size and immense heat, all of this would be impossible. There would neither the space to cram them all here and the heat would burn everything up. In fact if only one star, say our Sun, were to get close to earth (assuming the Sun is 800,000 miles in diameter and only 10,000 F, everything would burn up. There would be no life on earth, no one to stamp on them and all of this is just with one star. Therefore, the stars would have to be much smaller and without the heat associated with it in order for them to land on the earth and with the earth and its people to live through it.
Dan_12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Joe_2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
C: If the stars were billions of light years away or even thousands, and they did not give their light, we would not even notice it as they are too far to see with the naked eye anyhow. But if they were close and the only stars that you see, then, yes; if they are darkened, we would notice that we can’t see the stars. The purpose of this darkening is for a sign for us from God. It would not be sign for us if we can’t even see the stars and they were darkened by God; he would be doing something that would not be necessary.
Mat_24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mar_13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
C: The above two verses indicates the relative closeness of the stars to the earth. For if the cosmos is what we are told they are, how can they “fall from heaven”? What is up and what is down in space? And even if the stars fell in one direction from wherever they are, how would they affect us? Who would see it? Remember that space – we are told – is huge, so a lot of things could happen out there and it wouldn’t make one iota of a difference to us. However, if the stars in the firmament, which is, say 300 miles up, that would be another story.
Luk_21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Act_27:20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
C: These stars would have to be what we see. The so-called billion times a billion of stars we are told we have, we would not see, so they are already hid IF we had them.
1Co_15:41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star different from another star in glory.
Heb_11:12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Jud_1:13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
C: Wandering stars are what we call planets, but the exist within the firmament, too.
Rev_1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Rev_1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
Rev_2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
C: Again, and indication of the small size of the stars
Rev_3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Rev_6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
C: How can a billion times a billion stars fall to the earth, even if they were one mile wide and 1,000 degrees F? There would be no life and there would be no earth. Thus, stars must be very small and without high temperature. Perhaps they just have light without any heat at all; I don’t claim to know everything and neither do other flat earth believers.
Rev_8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
C: It’s interesting to note that most of the mention of stars in their literal meaning is in the New Testament and related to the End Times!
Rev_12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
Rev_12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
I hope you have a better understanding of stars, and with that, of the universe we live in – though much smaller than we were led to believe.
